GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

Schools systems in Georgia are primarily county systems along with a few city systems. In the metropolitan Atlanta area, school systems are the Atlanta City Schools, Decatur City Schools, Marietta City Schools, Buford City Schools and the primary northern suburban county systems of Dekalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Cobb, Cherokee, Forsyth and Douglas. The southern suburban counties are Fayette, Clayton, Henry and Rockdale. Most of the school systems include Elementary schools grade levels of 1-5th grades. Middle schools consist of 6-8th grade. High school of 9-12th grade.

The great majority of people that we meet, who have moved to the Atlanta area, are surprised and happy with the quality of the schools that they find. We are primarily working with families who move into the northern suburbs who find the systems of North Fulton, Cobb and Gwinnett counties to compare very well with the schools where their children have been in other cities.

In referring to the particular schools, in working with our clients, we will refer to the different schools by high school district within the different counties. The quality of the high school and their results are indicative of the middle and elementary schools. We can compare the middle and elementary if needed but the overall value of an area is usually judged in large part on the value placed on that areas high school reputation.
